Going Green

Are you in with the latest craze?

Is your kitchen up for the seal of approval:Going Green?

No, I don’t mean painting your kitchen green, I mean are you shopping on a budget. Following a budget takes planning and the will power to stick to your budget.

Sit down with the family and discuss how and what you are planning. Therefore, there will be no surprises.

Let’ get started.
1. Determine how much money you have to spend on food.
2. Set a date to go shopping. ie. make it every Satruday or Friday.
3. Look for coupons in the newspapers and go online and see what the store has to offer in sales.
4. Remembet to take your coupons with you(yes, I forget sometimes) and see if the store offer double idenimity meaning the manufacture give you a discount : can the store offer a discount on the same product.
5. If you buy a lot of paper products :check with a discount store to see if they are cheaper.
6. Check your local dollar store for tooth past, soaps, shampoos, deordants.
7. Try the local big stores for sales and discounted items, but, remeber buy ONLY what you need. You do not want to waste the excess food.
8. If you buy in excess, freeze meats, fruits, vegetables, and fish.
9. Buy plain vegetables instead of the ones with special sauces.
10 . Make you own spaghetti sauces.
11. Buy day-old bread, or rolls, use them quickly, freeze them or use them in recipes.
12. Buy plain, unsweetened cereals and add your fruit or juice to the cereal to sweeten them.
13. Buy the old fashion rice, instead the instant rice.
14. Buy fruits and vegetables in season. ( with the excess vegetables, blanch and freeze them).
15. Buy a whole chicken and cut up instead of buying those that are already cut for you.
When buying in bulk, take a friend with you. Why? you can share a carton of yogurt or fruit and split the price.
