To Have Sugar or Not to Have Sugar -Part Three

Do you know what products have sugar? Look at your food labels and look for the words: dextrin, dextrose, surcose, maltose. These are just a  few names/forms of sugar.

But  do you know how much sugar are in those products you use or consume everyday.

 

Hidden Sugars *

 

Food item Portion size Approx. Sugar Content in teaspoon
Jelly/jam 1 teaspoon 2-1/2 teaspoon
Chewing gum  1 stick ½  teaspoon
Lifesavers 1 piece 1/3

 

Raisins 1/2cup 4 teaspoons
Applesauce ½ cup (unsweetened) 2 teaspoons
Grape Juice 1`/2 cup 3-1/2 teaspoons
Donut 1 3 teaspoons
Ice cream cone 1 5-1/2 teaspoons
Sherbet ½ cup 9 teaspoons

So , the next time you put sugar on your cereal and add dried fruit, think how much sugar you are adding plus how much the cereal has too. It all adds up to unwanted calories.
