I loved to get into the kitchen and prepare food from scratch. It all started when I was 10 years of age, I would go into the kitchen and pull out the cookbook and find something to make.
I don’t know why, but, after I had dinner and when everyone was asleep or when I was left alone, I would go into the kitchen and start messing around. I enjoyed it and still do.
Well, I made a lot of mistakes and burn some pots, but I enjoy making pasta from scratch and cake decorating. I loved the end product.
So , this year , I learned how to make yogurt and it is easy too.
I brought an inexpensive yogurt maker and it came with a yogurt starter mix pack.
Preparations:
I brought a quart of SKim milk.
1- cooking thermometer
1. Pour 42 ounces of skim milk (5 .5 cups) into a saucepan.
2. Heat the milk to 180 degrees F. Then , remove from heat and let milk cool to 111 degress F.
3. Then place the luke warm milk into a pitcher and sprinkle in 1 packet (5g) of Yogurt. Starter.Lightly whisk until Yogurt Starter is well dissovled.
4. Pour the mixture into 8 individual jars. Let incubate in the yogurt maker for 18 to 20 hours.
If you cooked whole milk it takes 6 to 8 hours (shorter time because it has fat in it.)
2% Milk 8 to 10 hours
1% Milk 10 12 hours.
skim milk longer .
After incubation, place jars in refrigerator to stop culture incubation.
It is good.Slighty bitter to taste because the yogurt has no added sugar or chemicals . You can add your own fruit or granola. Remember granola , has fat, so use only 1 tsp of granola .
I have been waiting for this recipe. I will be making some of my own this weekend. I can’t wait. I plan on adding some fresh granola and fruit in mine. Yumminess! It beats spending the $5 or so when I go to the organic market. That container is very small and only enough for one serving. Thanks for this recipe Ms. Renee! I hope you post more healthy homemade recipes soon <3.
Thanks, I will
